Questions, answered
Shop Rice and Grains at Silk Road Foods in Ottawa — basmati, sella, Persian tarom, Egyptian and brown rice from trusted brands like Tilda, Sultan and Cedar Roots. Halal, delivered across Ottawa–Gatineau or ready for pickup at 1618 Merivale Road.
What’s the difference between basmati and sella?
Both are long-grain. Sella is parboiled before milling, so the grains are golden, firmer and less likely to break — great for biryani and large batches. Classic basmati is whiter, more delicate and cooks a little faster.
Do I need to soak rice before cooking?
Soaking basmati for 20–30 minutes helps the grains stretch and stay separate. Sella usually benefits from a longer soak — follow the instructions on the bag.
Do you deliver heavy bags like 10 lb rice?
Yes — we deliver across Ottawa–Gatineau, and the delivery fee is calculated at checkout. You can also pick up in store, ready in 4 hours.
