Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect only what we need to take and deliver your order, answer your questions and, if you opt in, send you deals. We do not store your card number. You can ask to see or correct your information, or withdraw your consent, at any time.

1. Who is responsible

3. Why we collect it and how we use it

To take, prepare, deliver or hand over your order, and to take payment.
To contact you about your order, such as unavailable items, delays or pickup readiness.
To handle returns, refunds and complaints.
To run your account, if you have one.
To prevent fraud and keep the site secure.
To keep our records and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
To improve our site, products and service.
To send marketing messages, only if you have agreed (section 5).

4. Your consent

We collect, use and share personal information with your consent, or as otherwise allowed or required by law. By giving us your information to place an order, you agree we may use it to fulfil that order. Marketing messages need your separate, express consent. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits, by contacting us. Withdrawing consent for some uses may mean we cannot provide some services.

5. Marketing emails and newsletters

We send promotional emails, such as our weekly flyer, only to people who have asked for them. A checkbox or form that you actively complete is how you ask. We do not pre-tick consent boxes.
Every marketing email identifies Silk Road Foods, includes our mailing address and contact details, and has an unsubscribe link. We act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days at no cost to you.
You will still receive transactional messages about your orders.

6. Cookies, analytics and social media

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, run the site securely, and understand how the site is used. Where we use analytics or marketing tools, they may collect your IP address, device and browsing activity. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, such as the cart and checkout, may not work without them. If you click through to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or other services, or load their embedded content, those services collect information under their own privacy policies.

7. Who we share information with

Shopify, which hosts our store, checkout and customer accounts.
Payment processors, to take and refund payments.
Service providers and apps that help us run the store, send email or understand site use, only for those purposes.
Advertising and analytics partners, if tracking tools are enabled on the site.
Authorities and advisers, where the law requires or allows it, and in connection with a sale or restructuring of our business.

We require service providers to protect your information and use it only for our purposes.

8. Where information is stored

Our store platform and some service providers process information on servers that may be outside Canada, including in the United States. Your information may be subject to the laws of those places while it is there.

9. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal, tax and accounting requirements. When it is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.

10. Keeping it safe

We use reasonable safeguards, including secure checkout provided by Shopify, and limit access to personal information to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

11. Your rights

You can ask us to:

tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it, and give you access to it;
correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
withdraw your consent, including unsubscribing from marketing;
answer questions about our privacy practices.

To make a request, contact us using the details in section 1. We may need to confirm who you are first. We will respond within the time required by law and explain if we cannot fully meet a request.

If you are not satisfied, you can make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

12. Customers in Quebec

If you live in Quebec, you may have additional rights under Quebec privacy law.

13. Children

Our website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make a significant change in how we use your information, we will tell you where the law requires.
